Having racked up 191 in 20 overs, England looked set to comfortably win their opening encounter with the Windies, but the ‘heavens opened’, leaving Chris Gayle and his men to knock off a simple Duckworth/Lewis target of 60 runs in 6 overs to win – something they comfortably achieved.

The England batting display was in actual fact quite awesome, particularly from the middle order of Eoin Morgan and Luke Wright, who notched up a 95 run partnership. Morgan top scored with a brilliant 55 which included an outrageous reverse hit six and Wright finished unbeaten on 47, which included three sixes of his own. It is therefore interesting to note that Morgan is quoted only at 6/1 to be England’s top batsman again in this match, while Wright is as long as 10/1- these odds are available via Boylesports.

Earlier there had been highly encouraging and competent starts from openers, Michael Lumb and Craig Kieswetter, who both made quick fire scores of 28 and 26 respectively, which gave England a very solid start.

Obviously if the odds are correct for this match then England will have little difficulty in overcoming an Irish team which has already incurred defeat by the Windies. We actually do not see any way how Ireland can win and fully expect England to take their place in the Super 8s. However with the odds being so unattractive we would tend to look for the value elsewhere and so suggest the Top Batsman markets, where we think Paul Collingwood might be the surprise at 6/1 and for Ireland we would back William Porterfield at 9/2.
